Traditional Arts Preservation Project
Ayanda Vilakazi
KwaZulu-Natal
Deadline: 31/05/25
Background Story
Many traditional Zulu art forms and crafting techniques are at risk of being lost as elder artisans pass away without transmitting their knowledge. Our project will pair master craftspeople with apprentices to document beadwork, pottery, and basket-weaving techniques through workshops. We'll create both physical and digital archives of these techniques, including high-quality video tutorials in isiZulu and English. Funds will pay for materials, workshop venues, documentation equipment, and fair compensation for the master artisans sharing their knowledge.
